A delay with the engine development set the HARTek Motorsport Team program somewhat behind earlier plans, BUT we're back. The June Sprints starter our season. The car was well off the pace but the team needed a test and this was the best opportunity. Three weeks later we tested again at Autobahn in Joliet, IL. This produced the expected results & Fabio seemed to return to his level of performance by the end of the day. The new Mazda performed well with only a minor number of items to address before our next event.
An entry to the Cat Majors back to Road America produced a much better result than the prior visit. Aero work completed showed a much improved performance. A 5th overall on Saturday and a qualifying on Sunday that placed us 5th on eth grid for the Sunday event. A problem arose only minutes before the start of the race was resolved quickly but caused Fabio to start at the back of the field. With 35 cars in front of him, Fabio put on a remarkable charge through the field that resulted in him regaining his qualifying position & finishing in the same spot. A remarkable accomplishment considering the starting position.
No time to rest, we entered the follow weekend at Heartland Park Topeka. Quick work from everyone to prepare the car the event. A remapping of the engines performance and the HARTek Team was off. Weather delayed the first qualifying until after lunch, but the car was fantastic! Qualifying on the pole and establishing a new lap record. A dominate performance during the sprint race garnered a first place. An evening celebration was in order! Sunday brought the endurance race and a starting position again on the pole. The starting pace was quicker than the day before. In the early laps Fabio established a new lap record, breaking his previously set mark by 2.4 seconds! A very solid performance got the team the invite to the National Championship at Indianapolis which was our early season goal.
